I've been referred to WorkWell. What next?

You have been referred to the WorkWell service for Salford. This information explains what will happen next, what the service does, and how it can support you.

What happens now?

Your details will be securely passed to the WorkWell team, who will contact you within five working days. You will receive an email and a phone call to arrange a suitable time for a telephone appointment to talk through your referral.

Your first appointment

During your call, you will speak with a Work and Health Coach. They will:

  • talk with you about any work related difficulties you are experiencing
  • help you to understand how your health situation and work situation
  • discuss with you what support might be the most useful

This conversation is person-centred, meaning it focuses on your needs, goals, and  situation. Following the conversation, the team will create a ‘Thrive in Work’ plan or ‘Return to Work’ plan with you. This may involve advocating on your behalf with your employer where appropriate and with your consent (eg around making reasonable adjustments).

Types of support WorkWell can offer

Depending on your situation, your Work and Health Coach may discuss referrals to services such as:

  • mental health support (help with stress, anxiety, low mood, confidence or bereavement)
  • careers advice (guidance on job options, training or returning to work)
  • neurodivergence support (help for ADHD, autism or related needs)
  • non-medical wellbeing support (lifestyle, routines, motivation and general wellbeing)
  • employment advocacy (support with workplace conversations, adjustments or rights)
  • debt and money advice (help managing bills, budgeting or financial worries)
  • housing support (guidance if housing issues are affecting your wellbeing or work)
  • childcare support (help exploring childcare options that fit your needs)

You and your coach will decide together what feels right for you.

Help us to support you effectively

Be open about your goals and challenges and let us know if your situation changes. Attend all your scheduled appointments and contact us as soon as possible if you need to rearrange.

Confidentiality

The WorkWell Service is confidential, supportive, and focused on you. Detailed information about how the service handles personal information is set out on the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) page. Your employer will not be told about your referral or any discussions unless you specifically ask for this.

Your NHS MSK care will not change

Your usual NHS Musculoskeletal (MSK) care will continue exactly as normal. Being referred to WorkWell does not affect your treatment or income and does not put your job at risk.

WorkWell is here to support you, not to judge or pressure you.
