Careers advice and employment support for young people in Salford 

The Find Your Future team (part of Salford Employment Hub) provides careers support specifically for 16- to 18-year-olds in Salford (and for those up to age 25 who are care leavers or have an educational care plan). Young people who are not in education, employment or training can access this service at no cost, to help them secure opportunities linked with their aspirations. 

The Find Your Future team is made up of specialist Careers Advisors, Transition Mentors and Work Coaches, who can help young people to: 

  • understand job, training and education choices and qualifications 
  • identify strengths and interests 
  • research options and make a plan 
  • build a CV and enhance skills and experience 
  • apply for jobs, college, training or university 
  • prepare for interviews 
  • build confidence and positive thinking 
  • get ID 

The team will also work closely with young people to help them to: 

  • link up with personal development and wellbeing programmes, and opportunities to build experience 
  • attend careers fairs, college open days or employer events 
  • plan journeys on public transport and access travel support 
  • speak to training providers or colleges to ensure your needs are met 

You can make an appointment to speak to one of our friendly team at one of the Gateway centres, community settings, libraries, or a location of your choice.

Drop-in sessions for young people

Come along to one of our free drop-in support sessions for young people aged 16 to 18* who are not in education, employment or training. Meet our friendly team for advice, guidance and practical support.

*Or up to the age of 25 if you have an Education, Health and Care plan.

Employ Greater Manchester

Employ GM have a range of services available to help you get into work. Resources include support with creating, updating and tailoring your CV, applying for jobs, marketing yourself online and preparing for interviews.

Our Pass

Our Pass cardholders can travel for free on local buses across Greater Manchester. They can also benefit from half-price off peak one-day and weekend Travelcards on Metrolink, and exclusive opportunities, experiences and benefits from a range of partner organisations.

Mustard Tree

If you are struggling financially and in need of clothing, furniture, household items or white goods - then Mustard Tree may be able to help. If you have an interview coming up and don’t have the appropriate clothing, Mustard Tree often receive donated which are useful for interviews.

Expenses for travel, interview, and work wear, funding towards ID, DBS checks, training and learning programmes.

Turn2Us

Turn2Us is a national charity helping people when times get tough, providing financial support to help people get back on track. Turn2Us helps people in financial need gain access to welfare benefits, charitable grants and other financial help – online, by phone and face to face.

Student finance

You may be able to borrow money to help pay for university or college tuition fees and to help with living costs. You might get extra money on top of this, for example if you’re on a low income, are disabled or have children.

Citizens Advice

It's important to make sure that you get all the help that you're entitled to. These pages give you information on benefits, tax credits if you are working or unemployed, sick or disabled, council tax, housing costs, national insurance, payment of benefits and problems with benefits.

Universal Credit helpline

Universal Credit is a payment to help with your living costs. You can find information on in-work benefits, changes to jobcentre appointments, changes to health assessments, changes to your earnings and support with making a new claim.

National Debt Line

National Debt Line is a charity who give free and independent advice.

Stepchange Debt Charity

Access free, confidential and expert debt advice online or over the phone.

Money Helper Service

Free and impartial money advice, guides to help improve your finances, tools and calculators to help keep track and plan ahead.

Better Off Salford

Better Off Salford provides information on the benefits you are entitled to and support to apply for them online as well as information on how to find and apply for jobs.

Salix Homes

Apply for our Boost4Youth fund whether you’re an apprentice who’s after some new tools for the trade or a youth club in desperate need for some new equipment. Applicants don’t have to be a Salix Homes tenant, but the project must benefit young people aged up to 17 living in Salix Homes neighbourhoods.

Hamilton Davies Trust

Irlam and Cadishead young residents can access small value grants to support their skills developement and benefit their future employability. The fund targets people engaged in an apprenticeship, or a similar arrangement, to develop ‘hands on’ practical skills.

  • Kooth – Online counselling and emotional wellbeing support that is available to any young person who may be struggling with their mental health
  • SHOUT - A confidential 24/7 text service offering advice for anyone struggling with a host of issues, including: anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, abuse or assault, self-harm, bullying or relationship issues
  • SilverCloud - Offers online programmes to help ease your levels of stress, sleep better or to build resilience
